’A Quiet Place: Day One’ Recruits Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn
A Quiet Place: Day One, the long-anticipated spinoff currently preparing to shoot in 2023, has just added Lupita Nyong’o and Stranger Things breakout star Joseph Quinn to its cast.
Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures doubled down on its commitment to expanding the A Quiet Place universe with a third chapter in the main saga and a spinoff that’s been in the works for a while, first with director Jeff Nichols (Mud, Midnight Special) and now with Michael Sarnoski (Pig). John Krasinski, who is overseeing the spinoff and overall development of the franchise, is expected to return as the writer-director for the third mainline film, though that hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
It appears pre-production on Day One is nearly done, as the project has started filling its cast with big names. Deadline is keeping tabs on the film, reporting the additions of both Lupita Nyong’o as the lead and Joseph Quinn in another major role. Nyong’o’s recent work includes Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the ill-fated The 355. As for Quinn, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see him landing a sizable part in a major franchise, since his part as Eddie Munson in the fourth season of Stranger Things promptly became a fan-favorite. While he’s got quite the TV curriculum, fans of niche genre flicks might also remember him from Bad Robot’s Overlord (2018).
A Quiet Place: Day One is based on an idea from John Krasinski, who directed, wrote, and starred in the first two sci-fi thrillers. It’s set to bow on March 8, 2024. Meanwhile, Part III is targeting a 2025 arrival, so Paramount and Krasinski will probably remain tight-lipped about the threequel for a while. A Quiet Place: Part II was the first Covid-era theatrical-only release and opened to $57 million at the domestic box office in May 2021, gradually earning $297 million worldwide with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score.
