’The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Levels up with Second Trailer

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Just in time for Christmas, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has shared a second, longer trailer that will make veteran fans of the iconic plumber very happy.

As teased by Nintendo’s official channels, a brand-new look at the upcoming animated movie starring Mario and Luigi has arrived today after October’s teaser wowed both fans and casual audiences. Watch it below:

Unsurprisingly, the new preview features an extended look at the movie’s plot and the many adventures the Mario brothers and the rest of the colorful cast of characters will be thrown into following Bowser’s attack on the Mushroom Kingdom. Moreover, we can see all the good done by the extra time Illumination has had to work on the project after pandemic-related delays.

The official Super Mario Bros. Movie accounts also shared a gorgeous look at the interior of Princess Peach’s castle ahead of the trailer’s release:

The cast of the movie was announced last year and includes Chris Pratt as Mario, with Charlie Day voicing his brother Luigi, and Anya Taylor-Joy, his love interest Princess Peach. The list continues with Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson voicing Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as the voice of Spike.

The project is a collaboration between Illumination and Nintendo, with Universal co-financing the project and distributing it in North America. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! To The Movies) are directing the project, from a script by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2 and Minions: The Rise of Gru). Chris Meledandri, from Illumination, and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, who created Mario, are producing the movie.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be released in US theaters on April 7, 2023, after moving from its original December 21, 2022, date. As of right now, the movie won’t be facing much competition that month, with the only big movies coming up next being Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins and Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise on April 21, and then Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5.
